Macclesfield’s Older Community Spreads Christmas Joy

Festive cheer is well and truly ringing in Macclesfield, thanks to the well wishes of the town’s older residents winning a Christmas card competition at their home, Belong Macclesfield.

Starring in the humorous winning entry themselves, residents can be seen holding up messages noting what the best part of Christmas is to them, in an effort not dissimilar to a scene in Yuletide favourite film, Love Actually. Whilst some enjoy the bringing together of loved ones and dressing one’s home for the occasion, others are keener to don their favourite seasonal jumper and make headway with the opening of gifts.

The digital card has been shared with customers, families, and others in the community connected with the Kennedy Avenue village, as well as Belong’s sister sites across Cheshire and the North West, whose customers were also invited to take part in the annual contest.

Speaking of behalf of the winning household, Margaret Wilkinson said: “I think it’s absolutely marvellous!”

The winners live on Belong Macclesfield’s Oak House, a homely 24-hour residential care household with of up to 13 people sharing a communal living room, kitchen and dining space, with support workers assisting them to live as independently as possible whilst enjoying later life.

Cheryl Davies, general manager at Belong Macclesfield, added: “We’re pleased that our seasonal card competition has proven fruitful in encouraging our customers to showcase their creative flair. There were many entries and after a tough decision, congratulations go to Oak House for their wonderful submission.

“Whilst the sending of cards is a tradition perhaps less observed in this age, our customers tell us how important it is for them and we’re happy to continue to promote this for the benefit of everyone.”
