Caring colleagues at Belong Crewe are celebrating after being shortlisted in no less than 11 categories of the postponed Great North West Care Awards 2020. Rising to the challenges of Covid-19, members of the Brookhouse Drive care village team have been recognised in a range of award categories, including Dignity in Care, the Good Nurse Award, Palliative Care and the Workforce Development Award.

Belong is also shortlisted for the Social Care Covid Hero Award, recognising its team’s exceptional efforts throughout the pandemic across all its villages and home care services. Since the coronavirus outbreak, the not-for-profit operator has been re-accredited as a Gold Investors in People, with assessors praising Belong’s empowering leadership style, high-quality communication and the positive impact of its culture on resident outcomes achieved during Covid-19.

Recognised for creating strong relationships through her clear communication and hands-on leadership, Belong Crewe’s general manager, Kathryn Farmer, commented on how the whole team has pulled together to ensure a safe and happy environment for the residents of their village. "The wide range of nominations we've received reflects just how important everyone's role is at Belong Crewe in maintaining as much independence as possible during the pandemic while also keeping customers and colleagues safe."

As well as nominations recognising the extraordinary passion in providing care and support for people living with dementia, the vibrant community, fostered through a wide range of activities, has also been celebrated. Kathryn observes: "Offering a diverse programme of experiences is what helps promote ongoing independence for our customers. Whether it’s covid-safe interactions at the hair salon, enjoying a walk outside or getting involved in crafts and music, our team has sought ways to bring out the best in everyone.”

Kathryn was also keen to show appreciation for the challenging role her front-of-house team has shown since the pandemic. Shortlisted for The Housing with Care Award, this five-strong team has been invaluable in supporting tenants of the village’s independent living apartments, assisting with communication with friends and family and facilitating safe visits during these anxious times.

The rescheduled Great North West Care Awards 2020 are due to take place in July, with winners going on to compete in the national ceremony in October 2021.
