Belong Newcastle-under-Lyme, has won the award for Best Care Home Design at the Leaders in Care Awards 2019, which honour the industry’s finest examples of best practice and innovation.
Belong was recognised for its outstanding commitment to providing high quality bespoke care in a welcoming and supportive environment. The village incorporates a 17th century Heritage Gallery, acting as a cultural hub for residents and the wider community, with spaces such as Samuel Bell’s Tea room, a library and an art and crafts studio, all of which pay homage to the building’s colourful past.
Apart from being a cultural attraction, the Belong Heritage Gallery is integral to the village’s class leading dementia care provision, serving as a catalyst for reminiscence activities, proven to be beneficial for those living with dementia.
The state-of-the-art village combines 28 apartments for independent living and six households providing 24-hour care, carefully designed to maximise independence for people living with dementia. These are centred around a village hub, which includes amenities, such as a hair salon, all of which are open to the public.
Alison Peake, general manager at Belong Newcastle-under-Lyme has commented on the success: “We are thrilled to have won the award for Best Care Home Design. The combination of our unique range of heritage spaces and our adherence to the highest standards of dementia design make the village a special place for both our residents and the local community, so we are delighted to have been recognised in the awards.’
Organised by Care Home Professional and Care Home Insight, the awards ceremony took place earlier this month at the Hilton Hotel in Birmingham.
